In Autumn 2019 Holland & Holland and the Modern British Art department had a collaborative exhibition, showcasing pioneering artworks by Modern British artists, each hand-picked by the creative duo behind Holland & Holland, Isabella Cawdor and Stella Tennant.
The brief was to create a ‘motif’ that could be used to promote the collaboration, it had to represent both Modern British Art stalwarts such as Patrick Heron and Ivon Hitchens and the Holland & Holland brand.
The answer was the shared love of scenery, both Holland & Holland and the artists take inspiration from the landscape. I created a design that was reminiscent of fields and cliff, as well as the weft of clothing, using a dry ink style that was very popular with British artists of the St Ives group.
The resulting motif was recognisable and flexible enough to be used across a range of touch points, and marketing material within Holland & Holland stores and Sotheby’s Bond Street headquarters.
